Belts & Hoses

Over time, serpentine belts and radiator hoses require replacement, because they lose their ability to properly expand and contract. In the case of timing belts, teeth that keep the belt in place and functioning properly can snap off or the timing belt may become frayed and loose. One sudden malfunction of these relatively inexpensive but very important parts can have costly consequences. Make sure you keep everything running with regular maintenance of belts and hoses.

The serpentine belt is the long belt at the front of the engine. It is important in your car by turning on the fan, water pump and other units to make your car function properly. Most serpentine belts need replacing every 12000 to 15000 miles in Fort Myers. Most people do not replace their serpentine belts and then they break. Take a look at your belt, is it frayed, cracked, squeaking? If yes, book an appointment and we can replace your belt properly to keep your engine and car working properly.
A belt failure can cause an overheated enging, loss of power steering, and loss of the electrical charging system. Belts are made of plastic and can and do fail.    Florida heat combined with the underhood temperatures can accelerate the deteriorations of rubber.

  • Look for cracking, fraying, splits
  • Look for signs of glazing on the side of belts.   Glazed belts are more likely to slip, overheat or crack
  • Twist a Serpentine Belt to look for separating layers, cracks or missing grooves on the underside.
